Modern white combi boiler fitted between kitchen cupboards

Worcester Bosch is one of the best-known boiler brands in the UK. With BoxHeat, a Worcester Bosch combi costs from £2,050 fully fitted. The main decision isn't the brand but the model: Worcester's Greenstar range runs from the entry-level 1000 to the premium 8000+.

This guide explains how the models differ, whether you need a combi, system or regular boiler, what size to choose, and what each one costs fitted. To browse every model, see our Worcester Bosch boilers page.

Is Worcester Bosch a good boiler brand?

The short answer: yes. Worcester Bosch was founded in Worcester in 1962 by Cecil Duckworth and has been part of the German Bosch group since 1992. Its headquarters and factory are still in Worcester.

  • Worcester Bosch says its entire gas boiler range can run on a 20% hydrogen blend.
  • Engineers know the boilers well and parts are easy to get, which helps keep repairs quick.

The trade-off is price: a Worcester Bosch usually costs a little more than an equivalent Baxi or Glow-worm.

The Greenstar range at a glance

Greenstar is the name of Worcester Bosch's gas boiler range. All are A-rated condensing boilers. Broadly, the higher the number, the more premium the boiler: more output options, more features and a longer warranty.

Combi, system or regular: which do you need?

The type of boiler matters more than the model, and it's mostly decided by what you already have at home.

  • Combi: heats water on demand straight from the mains, with no tanks or cylinder. Best when hot water is mostly used in one place at a time. Worcester options: Greenstar 1000, 2000, 8000+ and 8000+ Style.
  • System: stores hot water in a cylinder but has no loft tanks. Best when several showers or taps are often used together. Worcester options: Greenstar 4000 and 8000+.
  • Regular (heat only): uses a cylinder plus cold water tanks in the loft. Usually found in older homes. Worcester options: Greenstar Ri and 8000+.

What size Worcester Bosch combi do you need?

Boiler size is measured in kilowatts (kW). For a combi, the kW figure mostly decides how quickly it can heat water for your taps and shower. As a rule of thumb:

Your home Combi size Worcester Bosch options
Flat or small house, 1 bathroom, up to about 10 radiators 24 to 25kW Greenstar 1000 24kW, Greenstar 2000 25kW
3 to 4-bed house, 1 to 2 bathrooms, up to about 15 radiators 30 to 32kW Greenstar 1000 or 2000 30kW, or 8000+ or 8000+ Style 32kW
Larger home, 2 bathrooms, 15 to 20 radiators 36 to 40kW Greenstar 8000+ 36kW or 40kW, or 8000+ Style 36kW
High hot water demand and good mains water flow 50kW Greenstar 8000+ 50kW

Tip: bigger isn't better. An oversized boiler costs more to buy and switches on and off more often, which wastes gas and adds wear. We confirm the right size for your home when we quote.
